Old Railway Carriage Converted Into Stunning Off-Grid Home

These two derelict old railway carriages have been converted into an absolutely stunning home. Packed full of character and history from their time on the railway, these carriages are now a wonderful place to call home.

Located in the Central Otago region in the South Island of New Zealand, this conversion project has been a true labour of love. The restoration and renovation took 8 years to get the home to it’s current state working part time.

Being located on such a remote property, the home is unable to connect to services and so is completely off the grid, capturing it’s own rain water and generating it’s power from a small solar system.

  1. I love this.something I would love to do and have a home like this up in the mountains here in Oregon.my dream is to have a home like this train car up in the mountains like mount hood, with a lot of property,as much as I can possibly buy.then I would hav3 complete peace, quiet, serenity.i would rather spend money on a lot of property and have a smaller home that is paid off.one day home in the mountains here in Oregon.

  3. I enjoyed seeing these so very much! I have a friend who has lived in an old train car for many years. I think it would be fun. It has so much character and history. I think that is what I like the most. I had to stop the video several times so I could really look at each room as you showed it. Thank you for sharing, what I think, is one of my favorites.

  4. Absolutely beautiful! It is unfortunate that the relationship was not as stunning as the home they built. To keep the place with all of its history and beauty… I applaud this woman! Wonderful restoration!

  8. You guys always find a great tiny house to surprise us with!
Great one, very original and different from the other “tiny” houses and I put that in quotes since they’re not that tiny.
