This off grid cabin is ultra-affordable and EASY to build!

This “Transforming Cabin” design by Derek “Deek” Diedricksen of has been built time and time again as an off-grid cabin retreat, as a full out tiny house with insulation and a bathroom in some cases, and for micro glamping rentals through .com. It was recently featured in Sunset Magazine and on Zillow (as well as on the Hipcamp homepage). It can be built with new materials for under $1200.

HERE is a link list of materials/products I use in my builds, my books, workshops, and more:

    • The nice thing though is if you have a touch screen you can double click to the left or right of the screen to advance or go back on the video several seconds. So if I wish to advance out of a long intro I have already seen many times before, I simply double click out of it. Also in setting you can choose how many seconds for each double click. I like this feature bcuz on DIY for example, there are times I want to see something being done again so I just double click back to the part I want to see. I hope this is helpful.

    • YT uploaders are ALWAYS over-estimating the time and patience their audience has. Maybe some next generation of content providers will figure it out and show the simple human consideration that this market really craves.

    • @FACT BASED Good tip. On my W10 laptop, I can also advance/retreat in 5-sec intervals with the left/right arrows. (I haven’t tried changing the time settings, though.)

    • Just skip it all. Sorry…. trying to promote a workshop/make a living, so I go back and forth on pre-plug stuff- sometimes this (lengthy intro)…..and other times not at all…. it IS related to tiny houses/the subject matter and my intro was to tell the backstory, etc- but yeah, people have almost zero attention span, so I get it. Thanks for checking it out either way.

    • @relaxshacksDOTcom I can’t believe people are moaning about the length of a four minute video. O_o You never know who will be watching for the first time and be delighted to have that information about what you’re doing.

I am loving these offspring of your original A-frame. It’s so much fun to see what people are doing with your plans.

  1. I’m out of the loop… but building restrictions would not allow this build in Canada I dont think. I wish I could have a tiny house. Maybe someday.

  2. Have you ever built one where both sides open up? I’m picturing a deck on both sides and mosquito netting that fastens to the deck when opened. This way you can position the 2 beds 1 in each opening and have room in the center. When done push all furniture into the center and close.
