Derek (“Deek”) and Dustin Diedricksen head to the mountains of Vermont, where Deek and his brother have been working on a cabin within the woods for a number of yrs. Away from the noise and chaos of town life, this tiny home away from home gives a spot where mates, relatives, and neighbors can relax and revel in nature, play music round a campfire, and luxuriate in the easy things in life.
Derek is the creator of “Humble Homes, Simple Shacks…” a guide which showcased this cabin and its design and story, amongst others. This booklet is soon to be re-issued via The Lyons Press.
Man, I love this show. Gives me hope for the future of the internet in the
living room.
Respect.
I don’t mean to break your balls, Mr. No Power Tools… but, isn’t that a
chop saw on the floor at the 1:47 mark? haha best episode yet. so this is
where hangovers are born. lol
Excellent episode. Your brother sounds weirdly like you.
sweet
to “Onlywhenprovoked” lol- no, we said we didn’t use power tools until we
got to the sheathing/plywood stage, etc- all else (framing, posting,
flooring, etc- was done by hand. The Chop saw you see WAS used, but not
until MUCH later on the game (and more so for the current (last year)
addition we’ve been working on (not featured in the episode- except for a
quick shot)). Thank for watching! -Deek
Finally! I was waiting for this episode about your Vermonter Cabin. Good
stuff. Now you’ll have to show us your addition in the next episode. How
many hour drive from your home?
I like the cabin! It looks like a nice place to get away. Just wanted to
say that the production values seem much better than a lot of videos
currently on Youtube, so nice work!
Thanks for sharing. We love you guys!..,uh in a purely platonic way of
course!….,although Dustin is kinda cute,..Ha!
wow the video quality is stellar, much better than the usual YT vid. what
is your secret?
Nice to see some americans trying not to waste 🙂
How abot the technical stuff: water supply, food storage, cooking, heating,
& potty? I see lanterns in the background, so the lighting question is
answered. Also, no building codes up yonder? Lastly, don’t throw an axe at
a bear. It just makes them mad!
@relaxshacksDOTcom i was just being a masshole ball breakah 🙂 great vid.
Nice little place.
enjoyed
Great Stuff!
What part of mass are you guys from?
Saw you in the NY Times today….you’re motivating me to build a home.
Great videos, thanks for the links to the other builders too.
you should say “scrapple theory” instead of the hot dog theory…. just
saying. ps. yes, it’s delicious.
hot dogs/scrapple- same difference- all scraps tossed together- but yeah,
scrapple’s more “backwoods” I suppose. THanks
ok…i’m building one….thank you…
was that a bong at 2:30?
@luvthaburrito oil Lamp
Awesome place. Great job
I’ll bet you were an entertaining child…!
@luvthaburrito looks like an oil lamp.the bongs are kept in the built in
shelves :-/
@luvthaburrito looks like it but if your talking about that blue thing on
the coffee table is an old oil lamp
like the look, and its great how the upstairs wall is like all windows,
very nice.
so nice 🙂
That guys funny.
how do u get air?
2:47 He talks!!
can you send me a copy of your book im kinda straped for cash
did you see the bong lol
I like this video very much, excellent job, Deek! I am acquiring ideas to
eventually design my own tiny house for my return to my hometown in Puerto
Rico. I will keep your videos in my active list.
Deeks is freakin sexay!
How did you go about purchasing your land?
I’m still confused why they place the ‘scrapple’ product by the vegetarian
faux meat section in the freezer. Gack.
These guys can break any bad mood I have. Give up Prozak, just turn on
Deek!!! He always makes me laugh with his antics.
You need to delve more into the cabin that you built in Vermont. How did
you go about purchasing the land? What tips can you give to someone who
wants to buy a small piece of land with the idea of building a small shack
or cabin on it? Where is the bathroom/outhouse? Will you have power and or
running water? What if you wanted to do that in order to retire in this
cabin later on in life, and live simply? My dream is to have a 300 sq foot
tumbleweed style home with some land for a garden.
vermont is just a wannabie adirondacks
I live in mass very close to boston too! Youve been to my town once or twice
